We Berliners can make a party out of anything – from political demonstrations to a busker’s kick-ass drum beat. It’s really no surprise, then, that at dBs Berlin, even our end-of-year assessments can’t escape the festive spirit.
“Signals started as an assessment project for the first-year Electronic Music Production & Performance students,” says programme lead Eliad Wagner. “They study performance in their second semester. At the end of that semester, we wanted to give them a chance to actually perform. Otherwise, how would you check if they got anything from it? As the years passed, the programme grew bigger and we also decided to add some presentations from the third-year students to showcase the course as a whole.” But it didn’t stop there.
Inevitably, the event morphed into a full-scale festival, giving students from all courses the opportunity to present their work to the public. The Creative Music Production & Sound Engineering students added sound installations to the line-up. The Film Production and Screen Acting students screen their collaborative short films. While assessments at traditional schools might easily induce dread, at dBs Berlin, they’re a chance to celebrate!
From Monday the 20th to Thursday the 23rd next week, our doors will be wide open from 3-9pm daily so you can experience what our creative institution is all about. Whether you want to support our students, check out our facilities or just party, join us for our bigger-than-ever Signals Festival 2019.
