Get to Know Our 2018 Film and Music Student Ambassadors

Ever wondered what it’s like to be a student at dBs Berlin? Does thinking about all the cool music production, sound engineering, filmmaking and acting shiz you could be learning keep you awake at night? Do you ever wonder what “growing your greatness” actually looks like – other than being a little-too-regular customer at Mustafa’s Gemüse Kebap? If your answer to any of these questions is yes (or no, frankly), we’re about to give you a whole new reason to follow our social media channels and blog.

This semester, we kicked off our awesome Student Ambassador Programme. On board as photographers and writers, it’s our student ambassadors’ job to share their stories – be that sneak peeks of class, Berlin adventures, think pieces, reviews or more. In return, they get personal guidance, a burgeoning portfolio, a career-boosting workshop and an exclusive exhibition.

For the photos, follow our film and music Facebooks, film and music Instagrams, and Twitter. For the articles, keep an eye out for our Student Snapshot and Student Sound Off columns here on the blog.

So, now the plug’s out of the way, it’s time to introduce the stars of the show. Get to know our student ambassador fam below.

I’m a Namibia-born singer-songwriter and have recently escaped the snarling jaws of a boring corporate life. In addition to the Bockwurst, I have come to Berlin for the active music scene and to pursue my passion for film music. I love to busk, explore and take pictures in my free free time. I feel privileged to be part of the dBs Berlin team, and am very excited to share some of my adventures with you. Follow me to get more photos and to listen to my music.

I’m an Italian guy from Rome. Before dBs Berlin, I studied maths in university and worked as a system programmer for some years. I’ve always had a passion for music, and music gear in general. Now I am focused on Eurorack modules and Elektron drum machines. I decided to join dBs Berlin to improve my musical knowledge and share what I know. I found a wonderful and open environment. Follow me to watch my Eurorack jams on IGTV and to get some synth tips!

I’m a human developing into a lion, born in Luxembourg, and belonging to the whole universe. I am part of a group called Sexxy Raverz and the label SR-Records. With this label I have been organising events. Having such a group in the background gave me the power to continue the adventure and exploration into the world of music. dBs Berlin seemed to me to have the same vibes that I am feeling inside; that’s why I chose this university. My goal and dream is to become a superstar, for the sake of my brothers and sisters; to put consciousness to the people, promoting a positive change in human evolution while I am existing in this time and space.

G’day, everyone. My name is Jayden and I come from Australia, the home of kangaroos and my parents. Before dBs Berlin, I kept a local Australian cinema in business. I’m not sure how it’s going since I left! I also travelled Europe for three months with another dBs Film student – from Greece to Scotland and everywhere in between. The adventure never stopped when I arrived in Berlin. Studying this great and unique programme with old and new friends has been one of the richest of experiences for me. It’s been exactly what I was promised from dBs Berlin and of this beautiful city. Cheers to great film and to the future!

Hello everyone, my name is Matthias and I am one of the few people who is actually from Germany. For the past four years, I have been travelling the world, working at different hotels and restaurants in Canada, Australia and the US. During that time, I rediscovered my passion for film and I couldn’t hold it in any longer. I needed to make the first step towards a future in film production. It is an incredible experience to be working and creating with people from all over the world and I am excited to see where this path will take me.

I am a multidisciplinary artist from the Temperate Rainforest in BC, Canada. A West Coast boy who grew up going to raves since the age of 14. And a self-taught artist, specialising in promotional photography and graphic design for underground artists, designers, performers and musicians. I spent the last two years working as a manager in a cannabis dispensary on Salt Spring Island BC. The idea to come to dBs Berlin came after years of hosting an open-air festival called Luminosity Gathering. Seeing many up-and-coming artists create successful music careers, I decided to put energy into my own! My aim is to use photography and designs as a way to connect people in the music and arts communities in Berlin. Please contact me at DJ.Triikstr@gmail.com if you would like to book a shoot for any project!

I’m a Swiss artist with a background in graphic design, massage therapy, performance and curating. Last year, I graduated from the dance intensive program at Tanzfabrik in Berlin. I’m also part of a collective called (Music for) Eggplant. We create performances and installations based on improvised live music. I enrolled myself at dBs Berlin to experiment with a maximum of tools for electronic music production, and for the opportunities that this specific environment offers.

I was born in a barren wasteland called Australia. When I was 12 years old, I was labelled the fastest thrower in Western Australia for my age group. My father was very proud of me that day. I was born with gills but I’m not a strong swimmer. I often wear my waterproof watch in the shower but still lose track of time. The phrase ”slow and steady wins the race” should be changed to “slow and safe wins the race.” Before coming to dBs Berlin, my friend  – who is also a film student here  – and I travelled around Europe for three months. We walked 359 kilometres and spent 234 hours inside a vehicle. I’ve come to dBs Berlin to meet like-minded friends, make beautiful films and experience life.

I’m an Italian music junkie, born in Arezzo, a small city in Tuscany, and raised in Florence. I moved to Berlin about two years ago to work in the business development field for one of the Axel Springer companies. I recently decided to leave my job to fully dedicate myself to music. I chose dBs Berlin to be part of a unique creative community, learn from great musicians and be able to exchange my work with like-minded people that have in common the same goal and passion as myself.

I’m a Dane with a little bit of Swedish in me. However, my obsession with travelling means that I’m somewhat confused about my national identity. Before dBs Berlin, I was studying at a special theatre high school. I recently graduated and decided it was time to try something new that would involve travelling, creativity and acting! I’m looking forward to learning, creating, evolving and collaborating in one of the greatest cities in the world! Tschüss 😉
