We’re excited. Very excited! dBs Berlin have relocated to a brand new purpose built facility to house our rapidly expanding institute of creative production.
The Funkhaus is an internationally unique, extraordinary and atmospheric location which puts a smile on the face of every musician, DJ, sound engineer, producer, filmmaker, artist or creative media maker who walks through the door. There’s a contagious creative buzz in the air which you can’t help breathing in. We love it! It’s a perfect fit for the passionate approach we take to teaching and learning. Look forward to seeing you here.
Where is the Funkhaus?
In the world class creative media metropolis of Berlin, 8 minutes on a tram from Ostkreuz past an industrial landscape of concrete factories and power stations, the Funkhaus looms into view.
This extraordinary site already contains multiple high end recording studios, numerous semi pro studios, rehearsal rooms, two world class recording halls, a range of live event spaces to die for and soon us! All located alongside a beautiful spot on the Spree overlooking Planterwald.
This redeveloped building complex houses a whole range of creative industry practitioners including large scale live venues and clubs, recording studios operating at all levels of the industry, a TV production company, visual artists, regular TV and film location shooting, music festivals and our own internationally unique education and training facility. Recent acts involved at the Funkhaus include Alt J, Depeche Mode, Kendrick Lamar, Bon Iver and many more.
The first phase of our new facility includes 22 studios/live rooms/production suites, an electronic music production lab, 4 IT workshop spaces, 2 co-labs, a multi purpose lecture/workshop space, 2 film production offices, a film studio and flexible access to many of the other spaces at the Funkhaus including the extraordinary and unique orchestra recording halls.
Fabriks & Co-Labs
Our spaces are designed with collaboration in mind.
Fabriks are what we call our computer labs. Here you will sit at your own workstation on a spacious island of four. You can stop, share an idea or show off your latest production to your neighbours or tutor.
Be human! Remember – you will be amongst people as passionate and motivated as you.
Our Co-Labs are fun and relaxed spaces where great ideas are born, shared, shaped and passionately debated with fellow participants and your facilitator. It’s also where you’ll hone your listening and analysis skills.
Our studios range from brand new purpose built spaces to the insanely atmospheric, vintage Funkhaus studios.
All are expertly acoustically treated and have a range of analogue and digital mixing consoles, controllers, microphones, HD Native Pro Tools systems, Eve or Focal monitoring systems, softwares including Pro Tools, Logic Studio, Ableton Live and a full range of high end software plug in FX, synths and samplers and numerous other toys from retro to cutting edge.
The EMP studios are an Aladdin’s cave of electronic music production toys.
From retro to cutting edge synths, sequencers, drum machines and DJ controllers it is every electronic music producer’s dream.
Our three flagship studios are available exclusively to degree students. These stunning spaces are the main control rooms of the original P2, K3 & K4 studios at the Funkhaus. K3 is equipped with PMC monitors and a Trident 88 desk and K4 with Kirsch Audio QS8 monitors and an automated Audient desk together with a range of outboard processors. P2 is about to be transformed into three new facilities with an exciting range of new gear. Watch this space.
