Hilary Baker

Academic Standards, Tutor

Hilary’s experience in the professional arts world started young. As a kid she danced at Lincoln Center in New York City and later attended a public arts high school in Los Angeles, where she specialized in jazz saxophone. Hilary received her bachelor’s from the University of California, Berkeley, and her doctorate in music history from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.

She has been a dedicated live performer and recording musician in major U.S. cities for about twenty years, participating in groups such as the improvisation-based Evil Eye Soundsystem and the indie band Public Record, signed by High Two Records. She also has professional arts administration experience, having worked at major arena rock and theater venues.

Hilary has been teaching at the university level for well over a decade. Before moving to Berlin in 2014, she spent three years teaching at Penn State Erie, the Behrend College, where she single-handedly designed and set up the campus’s first music production lab.
